What does the name Coco Safar® mean?

For us, “Coco” is evocative of French couture and luxury design quality, which is what we strive to deliver across the board in all our products and experiences. “Safar” means travel or journey in several languages. Together, the words embody our promise to deliver elevated café daily rituals and escapism, culinary couture and discovery.

Where is the Coco Safar® brand from?

The brand journey originated in Montreal, the second largest French-speaking city after Paris, and evolved over many years in Toronto, New York and finally Cape Town, through the work, life journey and travel experiences of its founders. More than 20 years in the making, this labor of love has become a cosmopolitan café-bakery-boutique designed for today’s global citizens and discerning globe-trotting gourmands, and a meeting of the minds for those enjoying the pleasures of elevated daily café rituals.

What is Coco Safar®?

Best described as Culinary Couture, Coco Safar is the world’s first luxury cosmopolitan all-day café with coffee, bakery/pâtisserie and curated retail, including a specialty espresso & brew bar, as well as a coffee emporium selling Nespresso-compatible coffee and rooibos tea capsules, coffee beans and tea leaves. We make all our food, baked goods and beverages from scratch – from breakfast, lunch and dinner to fine pâtisserie, cakes, viennoiserie, confectionery, chocolate and gelato. We also roast our own specialty coffee, and brew our own coffee, tea, kombucha and botanical brews. You will taste the difference. Check the Locations tab for contact details for each store.

Do you offer gluten-free and vegan baked goods and food?

We cook and bake in-house, in facilities that use gluten-based and dairy products. Delivering quality and excellence is at the core of every product we make or bake. We do our best to also cater to a variety of dietary restrictions and preferences to meet the wide expectations of today’s consumer and progressive food trends. In a gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan nutshell, yes, we do have some options. Please contact your nearest Coco Safar store directly to enquire about the products currently available.

Are you Halaal?

We are not Halal certified but rest assured that we don’t use any pork products, nor alcohol in our kitchens. Our ingredients are mostly sourced from Halal certified suppliers, meeting our quality standards. Our larger cafés are generally licensed, but some of our smaller stores may not be. Our cafés and food experiences are designed to be all-inclusive and welcoming to everyone.

Do you serve sit down meals in all your cafés?

Yes, we do! We love the hospitality business, and prefer serving you at tables, whenever we can. Check the menu of each of our locations under the relevant tab as our menu options may vary from one location to the next.

Do you have wi-fi?

Yes we do, and you are welcome to come and work in our cafés. Our arms will remain open as long as this privilege is not abused, and have plenty of seats for all diners, couch surfers, coffee sippers and croissant lovers.

Do you sell soaps?

We have sold exciting soaps that were so popular over the years that we could hardly keep up with the demand! The good news is that we are introducing our own collection of botanical soaps in 2026, along with skincare for your daily beauty ritual, inspired by the ancient botanical wisdom of the Cape fynbos floral kingdom. Check our social media platforms for announcements, and read about our approach to well-being – one that honors the skin, the senses and the earth.

Can I book your venues for a private event?

We are open to hosting your event, community-driven initiatives, and brand collabs. Kindly email us at bonjour@cocosafar.com to let us know what you have in mind.

Where can I buy your leather bags?

We will launch our latest collection of signature leather bags for men and women at our new flagship store in Paris later this year. They will be available for sale in our boutique and online.

How fresh is your coffee?

We’re glad you’re asking. We work very hard to ship the freshest coffee. Since we roast our coffee beans on a weekly cycle and are in total control, you will be receiving freshly roasted coffee beans, ground to your specifications, that will have been properly degassed and ready to deliver a perfect brew, to start your day off with the right tasting notes. As for our coffee capsules that are oxygen-tight, this means that you can count on the coffee freshness being preserved for one year, if not more.

Are your capsule Nespresso®-compatible?

Our capsules are 100% compatible with all Nespresso® & Nespresso® compatible machines that use a three-prong puncturing system. This includes most machine models manufactured post 2010. Nespresso® is a registered trademark of Société des Produits Nestlé S.A. and is in no way associated with Coco Safar®.

Are your capsules recyclable or compostable?

Our capsules are biodegradable, certified as bio-based and suitable for home and industrial composting as well as marine degradability. They contain no aluminum, are PLA-free, and are instead made of PHA and natural minerals-based additives. PHA is made exclusively from renewable raw materials and is both compostable as well as 100% recyclable. The capsules are also high oxygen barrier and effectively protect ground rooibos and coffee sensitive to oxygen, to ensure lasting enjoyment.

Do you have decaf coffee?

Yes we do, in beans and in capsules. Not only do we have decaf coffee, but we also have rooibos capsules, made from rooibos tea, a naturally free of caffeine, tea wonder from South Africa, that we blend with Canadian maple to perfectly enhance the natural sweetness and goodness of rooibos. Rooibos is the perfect caffeine-free alternative and antioxidant boost for the whole family. What about a rooibos cortado before bedtime?

What is rooibos?

Rooibos, botanically known as Aspalathus linearis, is a unique tea, belonging to the
fynbos family of plants growing in South Africa around the Cederberg Mountains,
tucked along the Atlantic coastline north of Cape Town. What makes this herbal tea
completely unique and rare is the fact that it only grows in that one region in the world. Once harvested, the leaves are traditionally chopped by axe and left in a pile to naturally ferment under the hot African sun. This fermentation converts green rooibos to red rooibos, and results in an herbal tea that is extraordinarily rich in a diverse array of antioxidants, including polyphenols, and several vital minerals such as magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc and iron. Goodness guaranteed!

Do you have a loyalty program?
